Fullerton galley opened up

A 1960s galley with a wall between the kitchen and the living room. The wall came out, the run turned the corner, and the kitchen picked up eight feet of worktop without the house getting any bigger.

How it was done

Taking the wall out was the whole job. It was not structural, which the framing told us on the first morning, so the opening went to ten feet and the run turned the corner into what had been the dining wall. Seventeen boxes went in over four days, hung to a laser line rather than off the floor, because the slab falls nearly an inch across that room.

The part worth copying is the order of work. Tops were templated the day the boxes were level and landed eleven days later, so the family cooked on a sheet of ply for a week and a half rather than a month. If you are pricing a job like this, that gap is the number to plan around.
